Jackson Purchase Medical Center Creates Two Scholarships

2/7/2012

MAYFIELD, Kentucky – Jackson Purchase Medical Center has created two scholarship opportunities for students interested in pursuing a degree in a professional healthcare field.

“We want to give back to the community and help the people in our own backyard get an education and a career,” said Vanessa McNeely, JPMC director of marketing.

The JPMC Scholarship is open to a student interested in any professional healthcare field and is a onetime $1,000 award. The MT Scholarship is a renewable scholarship for a student wishing to pursue a degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. The second scholarship is renewable for four to five years, and is specifically for those students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science.

“This is a little-known profession with great potential for job satisfaction and employment,” said Joann Harrison, JPMC Lab Director. “A student graduating with a B.S. or B.A. in medical technology (Clinical Laboratory Science) will find themselves trying to decide which employer to choose, rather than looking for a job. We would like the opportunity to mentor and work with the right student for a number of years in order to have the possibility of a valuable employee in the future.”
