Dietary Department

Jackson
Purchase Medical Center's Dietary Department is blessed with over 12
years of experience with Clinical Nutrition. JPMC's Clinical Nutrition
Director is Liz Choate, RD, LD. Liz moved over to JPMC from Community
Hospital with the belief that the main key to success for any dietary
plan is "motivation". She graduated from the University of Kentucky in
1986 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics.
Liz believes that a person must "want" to lose weight or improve their
health in order to succeed. This can be very important when dealing with
high cholesterol, diabetes, or high blood pressure, etc. She gives
instructions on several types of diets such as Cholesterol, Sodium
Restrictions, Fiber Modifications, Weight loss, Healthy Eating,
Pediatric Nutrition, etc. We also have a Diabetes Care Center that
focuses on patients with Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes.
Liz was recently asked the question, "What is the best advice that you
could give to someone who needs to improve their health through diet?"
Her response was, "I tell people two things. First, you can fit all
foods into any type of diet as long as they consume these foods in
moderation. Second, I tell people to forget the word 'Diet' because the
first 3 letters of diet spell die! What a person needs to do is to
improve their eating habits by eating 3 meals a day and to include foods
from all of the groups from the food guide pyramid in those meals."
