Many Diagnostic Radiology procedures require preparation. See the included list for instructions. If the procedure is not on this list, feel free to call the Radiology department at (270) 251-4251.

Gallbladder - Six telepaque tablets given at 7:00pm, NPO after midnight.

Gallbladder with Fatty meal - Same prep as gallbladder. After initial gallbladder films have been taken, patient will be instructed to go and eat a high fat content meal of their choice. Patients will return in one hour and films repeated.

Upper GI - NPO after midnight

Barium Enema - (BE) Prep begins at noon the day prior to procedure with a clear liquid lunch. Prep must be picked up from Radiology prior to noon-instructions will accompany the prep. Please pre-register after picking up the prep.

Small Bowel - Same prep as Upper GI, unless BE the day before. Laxative prep may need to be given.

Barium Swallow - No prep

Video Swallow - No Prep. Videos are scheduled starting at 1:00pm. The speech pathologist must be present.

IVP - Four Ducolax tablets at 1:00pm and Mag Citrate at 4:00pm. Low residue diet. (Noodles, rice, ripe bananas, saltines, melba toast, white toast, clear broth, strained fruit juices, tender beef or lamb, fish, eggs, NO MILK, NO POTATOES OR VEGETABLES) 8-8oz glasses of uncarbonated liquied. NPO after midnight.

Cystogram - No prep. Insertion of foley catheter is required to per form this procedure.

Voiding cystogram - No prep. Insertion of foley catheter is required to perform this procedure.

T-Tube cholangiogram - no prep.
